QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Located in South Western Uganda and is the most popular National Park
and certainly the most scenic; Mweya Peninsula, which is attractively,
positioned offering vast views of the park, gorges, and forest vegetation,
Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Edward and scenic views of the Kazinga channel.
The biggest attraction perhaps is the boat launch at the Kazinga channel
where you will see countless bird species at the bird sanctuary, hippos
and crocodiles. Large populations of Elephants, buffalos, warthogs, impalas,
etc can be seen during the game drive while the lions and leopards make
up the complete wildlife adventure. Chimpanzee trekking at Kyambura gorge
is a fun adventure. The southern part at Ishasha has tree-climbing lions.
Lake Katwe explosion crater and Mweya Museum offer historical insights
of the area.

Edward and George.
Altitude: approx. 1,000m
Physical features: QENP is divided into two parts from
the Kazinga channel between lakes Edward and George. The eastern sides
of the main tarmac road are the wetlands of Lake George, North of the
main gate is the crater area, the south is more heavily forested. The
fascinating Kyambura Gorge is also part of the park and offers unique
walking opportunities.
Vegetation: The south of the park has open grasslands scattered with acacia
trees and a remarkable floating fig forest that runs along the bank of
Lake Albert.
Animals: There are a great number of animals found here
in this place good for viewing including bushbuck, Defassa water buck,
banded mongoose, warthog, Uganda kob, elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard,
hippo, black and white columbers, red-tailed monkey, chimpanzee and topi.
Birding: about 550 species are recorded in this park; visitors interested
in birding safaris will enjoy the trip while here. Lesser Flamingo (from
December to January), Grey Capped Warbler, Fish eagle, King fisher, pelican,
cormorant, Saddled-billed Storks, Woolly-necked, African Skimmer and Red
Footed Falcon.
Activities here: Game drives, boat rides on kazinga channel,
Nature walks offered at the Maramagambo forest, and Bird watching.

Kingfisher Lodge, Mweya hotel, student camp, and other camping sites with
good facilities to pitch a tent in the northern part of the park and in
the southern sector of Ishasha, there is the Ishasha Wildness Camp which
offers a true wilderness experience in a unique area famous for tree climbing
lions. Visitors can also stay in Kasese town which is a 30 minutes drive
to the park.
