Exhilirating rafting adventure Uganda
The longest river in the world, the Nile starts its 6600 km journey to
the Mediterranean at Jinja on the shores of Lake Victoria. At its source,
the White Nile has some of the most ferocious big water rapids on earth.
Thundering between heavily forested islands, the White Nile has up to ten
times the volume of the Zambezi. It was only in 1996 that the international
rafting company, Adrift, made their historic first descent. Since then,
rafting has taken off as one of the most popular activities with visitors
to Uganda. A number of companies operate one- and two-day trips from Kampala,
1½ hrs. away by road.
It is not all adrenalin pumping action. While on the river you will also
get to see the local wildlife, which includes hippos, and a variety of birds.
You will also have the chance to have a swim on some of the calmer stretches
of water. You can enjoy a one-day trip departing from Bujagali Falls,
a short distance from Jinja and ends at Itanda, 18 kilometres away. The
water levels at the source of the White Nile are subject to little seasonal
variation, so rafting is excellent at any time of year. The constant volume
of water guarantees one of the most exciting one-day rafting trips in the
world. The legendary rapids 'Total Gunga', 'Overtime' and 'Itanda' will
live long in the memory.
Our trip includes transfers from Kampala, a hearty lunch on a forested river
island and nine major rapids no-one else dares to run!
